Atlantis IST LTD is a high-tech spin-off company subsidized by the Cyprus Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. It was established in Nicosia Cyprus in March 2005 and it is temporarily situated in the Cyprus College.

The company is conducting applicable research in the areas of:

  • Informatics
  • Advanced Digital Signal Processing & Pattern Recognition Technologies
  • Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies

A group of 8 design engineers and technicians is currently engaged in core R&D activities. The core development activity of Atlantis is the S/W suite entitled BAIIM (Building Automation Infrastructure Integration Manager), as a new generation distributed application in building automation. BAIIM is an overall building integrity control, energy, efficiency and co-generation software monitoring and control environment. The major commercial aim is to offer an advanced local or remote building gateway service suitable for the 21st century requirement of habitat and office. BAIIM will also bridge the enabling link between Building and Utility, by offering a separate, scalable software suite (BAIIM Utility), suitable for multipurpose monitoring of thousands of buildings, via Power Line Communication (PLC) technologies. Advanced as well as critical operations and dynamic decision-making on metropolitan energy and safety management, becomes possible via BAIIM Utility.

BAIIM targets the upcoming vast marketing requirements for an integral control at both residential and office buildings. Such advanced level of control should integrate a variety of critical and non-critical parameters and values. This extensive agenda is effectively summarized in the real-time monitoring and control of 5 major cycles, stratified by means of operational importance:

a) Building Integral Control Cycle - Local & Remote Monitoring
b) Safety and Security Cycle - Safeguarding Life and Property
c) Energy Efficiency & Management Cycle - Building Energy Profile Trends
d) Building Energy Co-generation Cycle - Monitoring and coupling of Energy produced locally with the Power Utility Supply
e) Third Party Services Cycle - Establishing a trusted network with a wealth of potential services and market opportunities, via the Power Line Network and the Power Utility Vendor, in this case also acting as a service infrastructure provider. The capacity for rapid assessment and rendering of building-centric services, is hosted via the GESTS (Global Electronic Services Transactions Server) embedded in BAIIM. Major impact is expected in several social domains via this cycle, with most immediate appeal in education, services & employment, and health.

The company maintains an active cooperation link with a multitude of experts and affiliates. Currently, we are establishing company, in order to implement a next generation range of wireless network controllers and sensors arsenal for building automation, based on the rapidly advancing ZigBee protocol. A range of advanced functions, including device auto-service reconnaissance and homing, are being developed for inclusion into BAIIM.

In general the solution may offer, at a limited marginal cost, a radical and extensive set of add-on services in the building domain, of an impressive commercial and social impact, together with important savings on the energy bill, as well as proactively offering the potential of energy co-generation planning by the Utilities. It will also offer connectivity to residences, with all that this implies for the developing knowledge society. These benefits, although noble on their own, also bring the indirect benefit of shifting the cost-benefit curve of traditionally costly experiments (e.g. domotics) towards a more feasible, economically, point.

The benefit of a successful launch of the activity the to the Cypriot society will be paramount, as it will establish it as a forerunner in an emerging technological and service environment, mainly affecting the vital energy sector.

The company's longer term plans, anticipate parallel commercial activities in reaching OEM agreements, or establishing pilot installation in commercial or public buildings.
